Society Spring Meeting

  • Oshkosh Public Museum 1331 Algoma Boulevard Oshkosh, WI, 54901 United States (map)

Location: Oshkosh Public Museum, 1331 Algoma Blvd, Oshkosh, WI 54901
Speaker: Dr. Don Spohn
Topic: Copper Artifact Mining Tools

The 2018 Spring Meeting will begin with a business meeting, where members can vote on revised by-laws. But, there is much more that will be happening. Dr. Don Spohn will be presenting his most current research on Prehistoric Copper Mining. Dr. Spohn is very interested in seeing and helping with copper artifact identification. Please bring your copper artifact collections to share with everyone.

The Oshkosh Public Museum recently opened their new permanent exhibit, “People of the Waters.” The exhibit portrays 13,000 years of humans on the Fox River. Dr. Jeffery Behm, archaeologist at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh assisted with the installation of the exhibit and will give tours in the morning and afternoon of the meeting. There is more information about the exhibit at http://www.oshkoshmuseum.org/oshkoshPublicMuseum/exhibitionsPrograms/permanentExhibitions/peopleWaters.

Unfortunately, the museum requires an admission fee for all meeting participants. The Society will cover the admission fee for all members attending the meeting. A welcome table will be setup by the entrance to the museum for members to check-in. If you haven’t renewed your 2018 membership please do so as soon as possible.

The Society is providing lunch for a cost of $8 a person. We like to have a general idea of how many people will partake in lunch so please contact me if you interested.
